10 Things That Will Ruin Your Skin
We’re all guilty of some bad habits. Some, could have detrimental effects on our largest organ: our skin. Karaz’s Sara put together a list of habits to break for clearer and fresher skin.
1. Sleeping With Your Makeup On
Sometimes we get lazy and fall asleep with our makeup on. But leaving it on can lead to bacterial infections and clogged pores—which can cause that acne we all hate. The makeup on your pillow could also actually make you sick!
Solution: Keep makeup removing wipes next to your bed for easy access.
2. Drinking Too Much Coffee
We live in a coffee culture. But drinking too much caffeine is a part of the problem that creates dry skin and wrinkles.
Solution: Drink lots of water, and add fruits like lemons and oranges, with a dash of mint to give it flavor.
3. Popping Pimples
It’s very, very tempting to just pop a pimple on your face. But picking at your skin will only push dirt and bacteria back into your pores and giving you even more pimples.
Solution: Let it be and it will go away on it’s own, or see a professional.
4. Skipping Meals
You aren’t helping yourself lose weight by skipping meals. Skin gets dry and actually ages faster that way.
Solution: Eat a balanced diet, and get all your vitamins through healthy eating.
5. Testing Products
If you like to explore the new range of products available, do so but don’t do it on your face. It can cause infections, breakouts and is simply bad for your skin.
Solution: Test out the products on a small patch of skin on your arm, in case of allergy.
6. Not Drinking Enough H20
Water is so important to staying hydrated—which will help fight aging and give you a healthy glow. You don’t want your skin to get rough and wrinkly, do you?
Solution: Drink lots of water! Keep a bottle with you at all times.
7. Talking On Your Cell Too Much
Having your cell phone on your face for hours and hours a day is going to lead to breakouts and rashes.
Solution: Keep antibacterial wipes with you to wipe your phone and skin.
8. Yo-Yo Dieting
Losing weight, gaining it back, then losing it again, and getting stuck in this cycle is BAD. It can cause the fibers in your skin to get lose over time and create stretch marks and saggy skin—which isn’t going to help you feel great naked.
Solution: Eat healthy and exercise. See a professional if you can’t do it alone.
9. Salty Food
Eating lots of sodium sucks out all the moisture from your skin leaving it dry and dull.
Solution: Cut down on salty food and start using a good hydrating facial moisturizer.
10. Squinting Your Eyes
Do you have an eye problem? Maybe your vision isn’t 20-20. But squinting will lead to fine lines and wrinkles around your eyes.
Solutions: Visit your optometrist at least once a year.
